Production method: obtained from o-Nitrotoluene by oxidation. The mixture of o-Nitrotoluene, water and potassium hydroxide is heated to boiling, and then potassium permanganate is added in batches. After the oxidation reaction is completed, the oil is separated, the filtrate is acidified, filtered and washed, and the crude product is recrystallized with water.            

Application: used as dye and organic synthesis.
