brief introduction:Cholic acid (also known as 3 α, 7 α, 12 α - trihydroxy-5 β - cholan-24-oic acid, 3 α, 7 α, 12 α - trihydroxy-5 β - cholan-24-oic acid) is the main component of bile acid. It is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and acetic acid, and its solid state is white crystal. Its salts are called Cholates. Cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid are the two major components of bile acids, which are produced by the metabolism of cholesterol in the liver. The concentrations of these two main bile acids in human body are roughly the same. The derivatives of cholic acid are mainly produced by cholic acid coenzyme A (cholyl COA), in which COA can be exchanged with glycine or taurine to produce glycocholic acid or taurocholate.
