Appearance: off white to white crystal

Physical and chemical properties: strong corrosive, melting point 90 ℃, soluble in hot water and dilute inorganic acid. It is slightly soluble in cold water, ethanol and ether. It is prepared by condensation of chloroacetaldehyde and thiourea at room temperature.

Uses: sulfathiazole and its derivatives (sulfothiazole, phthalic sulfathiazole, etc.) as anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as nitrazomide, a drug for the treatment of schistosomiasis mansoni and Egypt, amoeba and trichomoniasis. It is also used as intermediate of pesticide.
