Purpose: mannose trifluorosulfonate is a synthetic carbohydrate precursor for the preparation of 2-deoxy-2-18F-β-D-glucopyranose (18FDG). 18FDG is the most widely used radioactive tracer in positron emission tomography imaging to study cell metabolism. FDG can be naturally absorbed by cells like glucose, but can not participate in the metabolic response. Because cancer cells have a characteristic high metabolic rate, 18FDG radioactive tracers accumulate in cancer cells. 18F emits low-energy positrons, which can be detected by a PET scan Chemicalbook scanner.
